Colin Keefe Maps, urban planning … and microorganisms

About

I’ve been working on a series of pen and ink drawings that explores methods for breeding urban environments using organic models – multicellular organisms’ reproductive and propulsion strategies, as well as pollination methods employed by plants.  The resulting images depict cities grown organically, without an “urban planner” as protagonist, based on environmental conditions.

My wife and I also run a small gallery in northwest Philly: Mount Airy Contemporary Artists Space.

Prior to our arrival in Philly in 2007, I lived for a long time in Williamsburg, Brooklyn – about 13 years – and before that spent eight years in the Midwest.  I’m originally from Massachusetts.
